A new custom home for part-time farmers, this house combines elements of Vermont farmhouse design as well as an arts + crafts flavor. Designed to fit into the landscape, a combination of clapboards and shingles was used to good effect on the exterior with subtle details woven into the shingle pattern.
We concentrated many design details on the entrance to the house, recessing the door under a deep porch, and using generous windows and transoms to bring natural light into the entry and stair. The interior spaces of this house use many elements of the craftsman style including handcrafted moldings and trim, exposed natural woodwork, built-in seating and display areas, and subtle color tones throughout.
